Class Duration: 9 hours total
Schedule: 3 days (4 hours • 4 hours • 1 hour)

Learn the complete workflow of laser cutting and engraving on Epilog laser systems. This three-day course covers foundational operation, intermediate techniques, advanced production concepts, and concludes with a hands-on skills test to verify competency. Students progress from understanding safety and basic file setup to performing multi-layer jobs, rotary engraving, template creation, and routine machine maintenance.

Attire: Closed-toe shoes and fitted clothing required.
No loose sleeves, jewelry, or dangling items.

Prerequisites: No experience required.
Basic Adobe Illustrator familiarity is helpful but not required
Certification Path: Spyderlab Laser Cutting & Engraving Certification.

Day 01

Laser Fundamentals (4 Hrs)

What You’ll Learn

1. Getting Started with the Laser

  • Laser shop safety and approved materials 
  • Vector vs. raster engraving 
  • How to prepare artwork in Adobe Illustrator 
  • Importing and positioning files in Epilog Dashboard 
  • Setting focus height and material alignment 
  • Selecting proper speed, power, and frequency 
  • Cutting and engraving wood, acrylic, cardboard, and leather

2. Engraving on Plastic & Layering

  • Multi-layer cutting and engraving 
  • Splitting files by color for multi-pass jobs

3. Positioning & Templates

  • Creating jigs / templates for repeatable cuts 
  • Advanced positioning and bed layout

4. Leather & Positioning Review

Cutting and engraving wood, acrylic, cardboard, and leather

Day 02

Intermediate + Advanced Techniques (4 hrs)

What You’ll Learn

5. Multiple Layer Material (Advanced)

  • Multi-layer cutting and engraving 
  • Splitting files by color for multi-pass jobs 
  • Fine-tuning DPI, engraving styles, and quality settings

6. Inlay Technique & Advanced Application (Advanced)

    • Using the rotary attachment for cups and cylinders 
    • Preparing batch files for small production runs 
    • Troubleshooting: under-power cuts, scorching, misalignment 
    • Performing basic machine maintenance (lens cleaning, filter inspection)

Day 03

Review & Certification Test (4 Hrs)

What You’ll do

  • 1 Hour of Review
  • Complete a hands-on laser operation test
  • Prepare and run a full cut + engrave job independently
  • Demonstrate proper safety, setup, file prep, and material handling
  • Submit your final project for evaluation
